Well guys, 2015 is almost gone and it’s time to prepare for the new year. I’ve been working on this post for a few weeks because when I first started, this list was pretty empty.
It wasn’t because I don’t have goals for 2016, because I surely do. It was because I don’t usually make resolutions or goals for new years, only because I feel so disappointed in myself when I don’t achieve them. But if I’m completely honest with myself, I know that the only reason I don’t achieve my goals is because I don’t take them seriously.
Writing them down and sharing them with you guys makes them legit and I fully intend to work as hard as I can to reach each one of them. And if I don’t, then I’ll take it as a learning experience.
Here are my 9 blog and business goals for 2016. What are some of your goals and resolutions for the new year?
1. Read more biz books
In 2015 I didn’t really read a whole lot of books on blogging and business. In 2016 I plan on reading more. There are so many on my list (and a few on my shelf) that I’m excited to get to, because I’ve heard so many great things about them.
2. Be more social
I want to work on being more social and present online and really growing my following on both my mailing list and my social media profiles. I have a plan to do this by being more helpful and open and just socializing more with other people that I think will “get” me. I worked on it a little bit this year and I made some really awesome connections, but I’m going to really scale it up and hopefully double my numbers.
3. Improve my work/life balance
Next year I want to work smarter, not harder. I really need to take care of myself and make sure I’m keeping the balance between work and life. I know as an entrepreneur that line gets blurred a lot, and that’s fine, but I just want to at least make time to take care of myself so I don’t burn out.
4. Better quality content
I’m committing to better quality content in 2016. Longer, more helpful, and more detailed posts are what I’m aiming for. But I think there’s more to quality content than just a lot of words. I want to do research to find topics I can write about that would help people and breaking those topics down to make them easy to digest. I want to start taking more photos to use in my posts. And I want to use more graphics, links, and screenshots to illustrate and break up the monotony a little bit. I think all of those things together make the best blog posts.
5. Learn more
I always want to keep learning. Next year I’m taking more tutorials, classes, and webinars and reading more books as I mentioned earlier.
6. Share more from my own life and experiences
I had this goal a couple of years ago when I first started this blog and I’m still working on it. I think I’ve opened up a bit since then, but I want to be even more open next year.
7. Work on being consistent and sticking to a schedule
This is a big one for me. I was so inconsistent this year. Not because I’m lazy or I didn’t make time, but because I’ve been stuck for a while trying to decide how I want to present myself online, what I want my focus to be, and what kinds of things I want to write about. I’m doing some branding research right now and
8. Generate consistent income
Yes, I generated an income from my blog and business in 2015. But was it consistent? No. I fully understand that I’m not going to make the exact same amount of money each month, but I want to create multiple income sources so that I don’t have to rely on just one.
9. Combine my passions
This is the most important one. It goes back to the struggle I mentioned above about deciding what I want my focus to be, what to write about, and how I want to present myself online. I have 2 passions (blogging/biz and entertainment/geek) that are difficult to blend together and make me feel like I’m missing something if I don’t write about both of them. So I’m working on a solution that may involve a new blog. We’ll see!
