Blog + Biz Goals for 2016

Blog and business goals for 2016
Well guys, 2015 is almost gone and it’s time to prepare for the new year. I’ve been working on this post for a few weeks because when I first started, this list was pretty empty.

It wasn’t because I don’t have goals for 2016, because I surely do. It was because I don’t usually make resolutions or goals for new years, only because I feel so disappointed in myself when I don’t achieve them. But if I’m completely honest with myself, I know that the only reason I don’t achieve my goals is because I don’t take them seriously.

Writing them down and sharing them with you guys makes them legit and I fully intend to work as hard as I can to reach each one of them. And if I don’t, then I’ll take it as a learning experience.

Here are my 9 blog and business goals for 2016. What are some of your goals and resolutions for the new year?

1. Read more biz books

In 2015 I didn’t really read a whole lot of books on blogging and business. In 2016 I plan on reading more. There are so many on my list (and a few on my shelf) that I’m excited to get to, because I’ve heard so many great things about them.

2. Be more social

I want to work on being more social and present online and really growing my following on both my mailing list and my social media profiles. I have a plan to do this by being more helpful and open and just socializing more with other people that I think will “get” me. I worked on it a little bit this year and I made some really awesome connections, but I’m going to really scale it up and hopefully double my numbers.

3. Improve my work/life balance

Next year I want to work smarter, not harder. I really need to take care of myself and make sure I’m keeping the balance between work and life. I know as an entrepreneur that line gets blurred a lot, and that’s fine, but I just want to at least make time to take care of myself so I don’t burn out.

4. Better quality content

I’m committing to better quality content in 2016. Longer, more helpful, and more detailed posts are what I’m aiming for. But I think there’s more to quality content than just a lot of words. I want to do research to find topics I can write about that would help people and breaking those topics down to make them easy to digest. I want to start taking more photos to use in my posts. And I want to use more graphics, links, and screenshots to illustrate and break up the monotony a little bit. I think all of those things together make the best blog posts.

5. Learn more

I always want to keep learning. Next year I’m taking more tutorials, classes, and webinars and reading more books as I mentioned earlier.

6. Share more from my own life and experiences

I had this goal a couple of years ago when I first started this blog and I’m still working on it. I think I’ve opened up a bit since then, but I want to be even more open next year.

7. Work on being consistent and sticking to a schedule

This is a big one for me. I was so inconsistent this year. Not because I’m lazy or I didn’t make time, but because I’ve been stuck for a while trying to decide how I want to present myself online, what I want my focus to be, and what kinds of things I want to write about. I’m doing some branding research right now and

8. Generate consistent income

Yes, I generated an income from my blog and business in 2015. But was it consistent? No. I fully understand that I’m not going to make the exact same amount of money each month, but I want to create multiple income sources so that I don’t have to rely on just one.

9. Combine my passions

This is the most important one. It goes back to the struggle I mentioned above about deciding what I want my focus to be, what to write about, and how I want to present myself online. I have 2 passions (blogging/biz and entertainment/geek) that are difficult to blend together and make me feel like I’m missing something if I don’t write about both of them. So I’m working on a solution that may involve a new blog. We’ll see!

  • These are awesome goals! What are some of the books on your list you want to read? I feel like it’s always good to have books on hand to learn more about business! I also feel like a work/balance is important. I hope to improve that in the new year too. Have a happy rest of 2015!

    • Thanks so much, Gina! I’m planning on making a post about this very soon, but one of the books on my list is Big Magic. I’ve heard so many great things about it and I’m really excited to dive into it!

I hope you had a great year!

      • That’s next up on my reading list too! It’s been sitting on my desk for the longest time. I need to finish my current book first! I can’t wait to hear what you think about it!

  • These are great goals and I share quite a few of them. In the second half of the year I started educating myself more on blogging as a business and it’s helped so much. I watch at least 2 webinars a week and it’s given me so much free knowledge. I want to also get better with the work/life balance.

    • That’s a good idea. I love watching webinars and soaking up all of that knowledge. Podcasts are good too. 🙂
