New Music – May 2016

New Music Tuesday has moved to Fridays! That’s when most new music comes out now, anyway. I remember back in the day it was Tuesday, and I used to get so excited to go to the store and buy a new CD. But Fridays are good too. It’s a nice way to kick off the weekend.

Here are some of my picks for May. I have way more than this in my Spotify playlist but I tried to condense it here as much as I could. Happy Friday!

1. Drop – Chloe x Halle

Chloe x Halle have a really unique sound that I love. This song and video are brilliant.

2. More Than A Miracle – MNEK

I first heard MNEK on Never Forget You with Zara Larsson, and I thought he had an incredible voice. This song isn’t new but I love it so much.

3. Shadow – Conrad Sewell

I randomly heard this song when I was out shopping. It’s so catchy and I love Conrad’s voice.

4. Take It From Me – KONGOS

I love KONGOS, and now they’re back with another song that slays me. Their music is such a unique blend of different genres and it sounds so good!

5. One Dance – Drake feat. Kyla & Wizkid

I love Drake so much. I fell in love with this and “Pop Style,” and of course now his entire new album VIEWS. Meeting him is on my bucket list.

6. This Is What You Came For – Calvin Harris feat. Rihanna

This song is so. good. This doesn’t even sound like Rihanna but I love it.

7. Mind – Jack Ü, Skrillex, Diplo, and Kai

Not a new song, but it’s still perfect for summer. Jack Ü, Skrillex, and Diplo should just always work together.

8. 6 INCH – Beyoncé

Of course I had to include Beyoncé! Her entire album Lemonade is so good. This song is so empowering. You can’t really listen to the album anywhere but Tidal or iTunes, so I won’t even bother linking to a Youtube video.

9. Back on the Wall – Greyson Chance

Do you remember Greyson Chance when he was a kid, with his song “Waiting Outside The Lines“? Maybe not, but I do. I was surprised when I discovered “Hit & Run” a few months back and I loved his new sound. This song has been playing in my head non-stop.

10. Hurts So Good – Astrid S

I love Astrid’s sound, and I don’t get why she’s not more popular. This song is so good!

11. Can’t Stop The Feeling – Justin Timberlake

I have loved Justin Timberlake ever since he was in Nsync and I still do! His new song is so upbeat. Let’s hope a new album will follow later this year.

12. With Me – dvsn

I’m loving But I’m loving dvsn’s entire album called SEPT 5TH. If you want to hear a really beautiful song, listen to The Line.

13. Falling Without Feeling – Sabella

I had to include this song in the list. It’s such a pretty, laid-back song and I love her voice.

14. Episode – Gallant

Also good: Weight In Gold (feat. Seal), Skipping Stones (feat. Jhene), and basically his entire album Ology.

15. Bored to Death – blink-182

blink-182 is back! Great song. No further explanation needed.

16. Don’t Let Me Down – The Chainsmokers feat. Daya

I’m kinda late discovering this song but the beat gets me so hyped. This one is definitely on my workout playlist.

17. Into You – Ariana Grande

I’m a huge fan of Ariana’s music. I loved “Dangerous Woman” and “Be Alright” too. Her new album is out today and I can’t wait to take a listen!

  • Marg B

I still buy CDs over Spotify, I love listening to music in my car, the most. Funny story – For years I used to make my mom CD mixes for Mother’s Day, buying new music singles from iTunes – usually pop songs – and arranging them so you got a good mix listening in the car or whatnot. She would call me her personal DJ. She doesn’t like listening to the radio so only knows somewhat who the hot new artists are. I stopped making CDs for about a year or two since I wasn’t really sure she was into them anymore, technology always advancing and improving. This year she made a special request and her eyes lit up when I gave her a new CD, with the titles and running time hand written on the cover. #6, #11 and #16 on your list were all on the CD! So, TLDR; some people still make mix CDs, and this is very helpful!

    • That’s awesome! And what a coincidence that some of these songs were on the CD. haha. I don’t use CDs anymore but I really wanna get into vinyl soon. I totally plan on buying a record player and a few albums this year. Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing that story! It made me smile 🙂
